Hi I'm Reid Holland and here’s a little bit about myself and my racing career.
Ever since I was a little boy I was fascinated with cars and racing, I used to race my little hot wheels and such up and down the hallway. I would go to the extent of having different classes, qualifying, ladders and a full elimination system and have races on a weekly basis.
It was a great way to keep occupied and teach myself the reality of racing.
My racing career started when I was 8 years old when my parents bought me my Jr Dragster for my birthday and I was in love.
The first few years was an extreme learning curve for myself and my dad who had become quite the crew chief. The first race I had ever won was in Gimli Manitoba during my first year racing! So I now knew how to win. I went on to runner up in Gimli later on in the season and just continued to learn and grow.
A few years past with continued success, winning and runner up several races at SIR Saskatchewan International Raceway (home), Medicine Hat, Yorkton, and Edmonton.
It wasn’t until I was 15 when I won my first championship and what a year that was winning 4 races, runner up 1 and several semi final appearances in a 13 race series. I felt on top of the world.
The following year was my last year in Jr Dragster and I held my head up very high which was ultimately my demise for that year. Still having success with beating the US national champion in Malta Montana I realized the danger of being over confident.
That winter I sold the Jr Dragster to be able to buy my super cool 1978 Monarch ESS. I had built that car up a little bit so that I could continue racing in the sportsman class at SIR. Me and that car had an instant bond with me finishing second overall in my first year in sportsman.
After this dad and I decided it was time for me to step up into the Mustang which is a really low 8 second door car and is a huge step from my 12 second street car.
The following year of my second place finish I finished 3rd overall and at the season final I was racking up as much points as possible and I licensed at the same time. Around 3rd round eliminations I was literally jumping out and running to my other car which was waiting for me in the staging lanes and they where pulling me to the burnout box as I was putting my seat belt on in +30° temperatures. That was easily the hardest day at the race track I’ve ever had.
The next year I was full time mustang. It was definitely a learning curve as I struggled going rounds. I was down but never discouraged. Every weekend I’d come out with hopes of doing just a little better than last race and there was growth in my self and success that followed because of that mentality. I ran that car hard for 3 years until the winter of 2021 where I had bought my long desired dragster.
2022 was the first year racing the dragster and hard work has paid off. In the 5 races I attended I won 3 of them!
My dragster nicknamed “Killer Queen” is a 2004 Worthy rear engine dragster.
I bought this car in October of 2021 turnkey. Initially we where thinking that we didn’t have to change much but we started looking into the car and discovered the car needed a full facelift. So that’s what we did.
There isn’t a nut or bolt that we didn’t touch. This car got everything from being professionally wired, to professionally wrapped, brand new 632 cubic inch big block chevy, brand new Reid Racing Transmission case, new rod ends on 4-link bars, new dash, the seat cover/cushion got fixed and new memory foam installed for better ergonomics, and all of the aluminum got professionally polished to mirror status so the car had bling.
Myself and my whole family put their full effort, blood, sweat and tears into this car and it shows. We’ve treated this car with upmost respect, and provide it with love, care and passion. And it shows! This car has been deadly consistent and is made it super easy for us to finesse and get into the precision level of tuning. This car cooperates and has the means and the desire to be in the winner circle, and I plan on continuing to put her there cause that’s where she belongs!
The Wally: Drag racing's most prestigious trophy - We did it! Third NHRA Northwest Division 6 divisional event we’ve ever attended! Had to beat multi time world champions and be better on the tree and on the index every round.
This was the hardest most trying thing i’ve done in my life.
